Ohio’s military veterans will get a helping hand this month from their local departments of job and family services.

Following a declaration by Gov. Bob Taft making November "Hire a Veteran Month," the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and its local offices are encouraging employers to do just that – hire a hero.

Veterans are those people who have served their country faithfully in countless wars, battles, skirmishes and peacetime missions. They are retired, on leave or on active duty. They are our friends, neighbors and even family.

This month, while we plan our trips and dinners to give thanks for all that we have, let’s think about our veterans.

They have given us a gift we can be thankful for all year.

So, give them a handshake. And, if you’re an employer, think about hiring them, too.
