Monday, dozens of Ironton Junior High School students will take to the stage to spread a little Christmas cheer.
"It’s a wonderful play, and these kids are working hard," IJHS principal Jerry Watson said.
"It All Happened in the Country," is a Christmas musical – created by Dan and Nan Allen – that brings the holiday home for city and country folk alike. The musical features two "city kids" who find themselves in the middle of the country on Christmas Eve.
With the help of the "country kids," the city kids learn the true meaning of Christmas.
Cassie Mountain, Wes Barnett, McKenzie Yates and Joe Kozicky rehearsed a scene from the Ironton Junior High School play this week.
Miss Mountain, who is portraying country kid Cora May, said:
"You city kids don’t know what Christmas is all about."
Kozicky portrays Luther, the other country kid. Barnett portrays Daniel and Miss Yates portrays Chelsea – the city kids.
Junior high seventh- and eighth-graders play the remaining parts, including a cast of family characters, narrators and choruses.
The students will perform "It All Happened in the Country" on Monday, at 7 p.m., at the Ironton High School auditorium.
The play is free.
