Lawrence County’s college-bound, or even in-college, students could get a financial helping hand from an area agency next year.
The Lawrence County Recycling and Litter Prevention program has two $500 scholarships available.
The scholarships are available to students enrolled in a major relating to natural resource conservation, environmental sciences and/or environmental education.
The scholarships are made possible by the Ohio Association of Litter Prevention and Recycling Professionals (OALPRP).
OALPRP is a statewide organization of individuals, local recycling and litter prevention programs, companies and businesses that promote recycling and litter prevention.
The organization also works closely with the Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, to promote the goals of both organizations.
The purpose of the scholarship is to demonstrate OALPRP’s commitment to professional education in the fields of conservation of natural resources, environmental science or education, county officials said.
Applications for the scholarships must be postmarked by April 15, 2001.
Applications may be obtained from a local high school guidance counselor, an OALPRP member or by contacting Arley Owens at ODNR, 1-614-265-6333.
The Lawrence County Recycling and Litter Prevention Program is operated by the Ironton-Lawrence County Area Community Action Organization, 532-3534.
