Role playing was the key for the Pointers Friday night as they beat the Huntington St. Joe Fighting Irish 70-59.

‘Everybody played well. Everyone played their roles well. When we do that, we have a chance to play with anyone," Pointers coach Mark Lafon said.

Shane Holsinger had 20 points to pace the Pointers. Jarred Perdue had 11 points and 10 rebounds, Bryan Maggard had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Wilson Ehirim scored a career-high 13 points.

"We played a nice game. I was real proud of the kids," said Lafon. "We said before the game it was going to be a war and it was."

Justin Eaches hit a 3-pointer and Holsinger nailed a pair of 3-pointers as the Pointers went up 10-0, but the Irish came back to within 12-10 and it was 17-12 at the end of the quarter.

The game was tied at 30-30 at the half, but Ehirim scored 10 of his points the second half and the Pointers converted 15-of-20 from the line – Holsinger was 5-of-6 in free throws – to beat St. Joe

"I have to give a lot of credit to St. Joe. We had a nice spurt at the end and took care of the ball," Lafon said. "But Wilson had a great game. He stayed within his game and he made a big difference in the game in the way he stepped up. And Maggard and Anderson did what they’re capable of for us."

Monroe Myers had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Ryan Cole 14 points, and Mark Hooverous 10 points to lead the Irish, 4-3.
