NEW BOSTON – The final score wasn’t indicative of the way the game was played.
It was a lot worse.
The Symmes Valley Vikings built a huge lead and coasted to a 73-63 win over the New Boston Tigers Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
The Vikings led by as many as 31 points before the reserves finished up the fourth quarter.
"We’re getting our bugs worked out. Our first six or seven worked the ball real well and we probably played the best defense we have all year. I just hope we’re inching toward peaking," Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter said.
Adam Corn was 10-of-11 from the field as he scored 21 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Vikings (9-4, 6-3 SOC). Justin Myers had 19 points and 12 rebounds while Brad Carpenter handed out six assists.
Mike Pierce led New Boston with 20 points, 14 in the fourth quarter.
Corn scored six points the first quarter as the Vikings went on top 14-6.
Myers came back to scored eight the second quarter and the Vikings were ahead 34-13 at the break.
Corn and Myers combined for 14 points the third quarter as the Vikings surged in front 53-27.
The lead reached 31 early and Carpenter emptied his bench.
