OAK HILL – First the Rock Hill Redmen achieved one goal. When that goal was erased, David Schug came up with his own goal.
Give the Redmen a win.
Schug had a big fourth quarter as he helped rally the Redmen to a 61-58 win over the Oak Hill Oaks Tuesday night.
Rock Hill was down as many as 14 points in the first half before cutting the deficit to seven at the break.
"We set a goal at halftime to have the lead going into the fourth quarter and we were able to do that," Redmen coach Marty Mills said.
Schug scored nine points the third quarter as Rock Hill came back to go ahead 40-39.
Oak Hill came back to build a five-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but Schug scored 11 points to help give Rock Hill the come-from-behind win.
"We told David he had to take over the game, and David did take over the game the last two minutes," said Mills. "But another guy doing a tremendous job for us right now is Isaac Kitchen. Defensively he really sewed up a lot of mistakes. He is playing his role better than anyone on the team right now. He’s played well all year long."
Schug finished with 25 points and Kitchen had 11 points. Robbie McClellan added 12.
Tyler Evans scored 17 points, Chris Needum 12, and Jimmy Dan Persin and Derek Brisker nine each for the Oaks.
Oak Hill led 16-12 after the first quarter despite nine points by Kitchen.
Evans got seven points the second quarter to offset six by Rickie McDonie as Oak Hill pulled away to a 30-23 halftime lead. The Oaks lead was 14 points two minutes deep into the quarter before the Redmen cut the spread in half.
"They shot the ball well. I thought they played well the first half and we didn’t play as well as we can play, but we played well in the moments when we needed to play well," said Mills.
Rock Hill travels to Chesapeake Friday for an Ohio Valley Conference game.
