The workshop will focus on things to consider when selling your timber and is sponsored by OSU Extension, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District and state forestry officials.

It will be held Thursday, March 15, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the soil and water office in Linnville.

Workshop presenters include David Apsley, natural resources specialist with OSU Extension; Ralph Crawford, district conservationist with the NRCS; county Extension agent Dave Dyke; Jerry Greenwood, consulting forester from Ironton; and Jerry Grizlik, service forester with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Forest industry specialist Ron Miller and wood products marketing specialist Sara Gurney of the OSU Centers at Piketon are also making presentations.

After an introduction, the workshop agenda includes planning your timber sale, with a discussion of overall and sale objectives and a discussion of tax implications.

The value of trees – which includes measuring the tree, tree species’ effect on value and value of log and lumber – will be discussed.

Greenwood will share details on the sale, including the setup and administration of it – types of sales, developing a bid package, advertising, bidding process and contracts.

Crawford will review best management practices, while the ODNR will review resource agencies involved with timber.

Refreshments during the workshop will be sponsored by Humphrey’s Sawmill and Logging of Ohio 217, Kitts Hill.
