Voiers, the Green Bobcats starting catcher for the past four years, shed his equipment and made his pitching debut Wednesday.

Voiers picked up the win as Green beat the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 10-6.

"Voiers did a super job. He shut them down," Green coach David Shoupe said. "It was nice to see another pitcher come through.

"We did an excellent job today. We went from striking out 13 times Monday to four today."

Voiers also did the job at the plate. He went 3-for-4 with a home runs and two runs batted in.

Green had 12 hits with Brad Bainer going 3-for-3, Matt Riffe 2-3, and Joe Salyers 2-4.

Green jumped in front 3-0 in the first.

Bainer singled, Riffe singled him to third, and Kyle Dyer had a sacrifice fly, and Voiers hit a two-run homer.

Clay scored twice in the third to get within 3-2, and Green answered with five runs in the fourth.

Alex Poe walked, stole second, and Dixon had an RBI single. Jesse Ferrell singled, and Bainer, Riffe, and Salyers all doubled.

The Bobcats got two in the fifth to lead 10-6.

Kyle Dyer walked, stole second, and Voiers delivered an RI single. Poe then singled, Dixon walked to load the bases and Ferrell walked to force in a run.

Green, 3-3 and 2-1, plays at Portsmouth East Friday.

 

Symmes Valley 8, New Boston 8

NEW BOSTON – The Symmes Valley Vikings scored four times in the seventh inning to tie the game with New Boston. The game was called due to darkness and will be completed when the two teams meet at Symmes Valley April 21.

Justin Myers homered for the Vikings.
