Ironton police officers are investigating a shooting in the city.

Acting police chief Chris Bowman said the shooting occurred last night at 2016 S. Ninth St., at about 6 p.m. According to Bowman, Shirley Dalton was shot in the back with a 12 gauge shotgun. Police are still trying to determine the cause of the shooting.

Dalton is being treated at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center. Dalton’s condition was unknown as of presstime. Calls to the hospital were unanswered because phone lines were interrupted at the hospital’s public relations office this morning.
