Even though South Point outhit the Paint Valley Bearcats 7-to-4, the Pointers lost a close 2-1 decision in eight innings Tuesday in the Division III district semifinals.

An error in the third inning helped tie the game, and then some clutch hitting gave the Bearcats the win in extra innings.

"We had some things that didn’t go our way. We made an error and they scored a run, but we had our chances. It wasn’t just the one play," South Point coach Bob Lester said.

The Pointers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Jarred Perdue singled, moved to second base on a passed ball, took third when Brian Cremeans bunted for a hit, and came home on a run-scoring single by Jamie Douglas.

Paint Valley tied the game with the help of an error in the top of the third.

Miller doubled, stole third, and scored on an error during the steal attempt.

Neither team scored again until the Bearcats broke the deadlock in the top of the eighth.

Day got a leadoff single, stole second, and came home on Wisenberger’s one-out base hit.

"Paint Valley was a pretty good team. They did what they had to do in order to win," Lester said.

Wisenberger got the win as he went the distance, striking out four and walking three.

Douglas started and went four-plus innings. He struck out six and walked two. Brian Cremeans came on in the fifth to finish up and was saddled with the loss. Cremeans fanned six and walked two.

Douglas was 2-for-3 and Cremeans 2-for-4 to lead the Pointers offense.

South Point finished the season 18-8.
