Chapter 51 of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) held its annual service Friday morning at the memorial at the Lawrence County courthouse in Ironton to honor those who have served and died in the armed forces, particularly Lawrence County residents, said Stephen R. Saunders, DAV chapter 51 vice commander.

The purpose of the service is "to show people that we haven’t forgotten the sacrifice," Saunders said.

Eleven members of the DAV participated in the service. Saunders and Sergeant at Arms Gerald Lambert read the names of county residents killed in the Vietnam War. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.
