SCIOTOVILLE – A Portsmouth man, who may be the victim of foul play, was found dead in Sciotoville Wednesday.

The Portsmouth Police Department, in cooperation with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the death of Richard Thornton, 40, of 1612 Linden Avenue.

Thornton’s body was located in the 5300 block of Kiff Street in Sciotoville. The body was found at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Initial investigation indicates Thornton may have been a victim of an assault. The investigation also indicated the death may have occurred several days ago.

Law enforcement officials are continuing the investigation and both encourage citizens having any knowledge of the incident to call the Portsmouth Police Investigative Division at (740) 354-1600 or the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at (740) 355-8245.
