Old cell phones can be handy

In today’s technology driven world, we wear out cellular telephones as fast as we wear out shoes.

In today’s technology driven world, we wear out cellular telephones as fast as we wear out shoes.

But rather than pitching those old, outdated phones – or leaving them in your closet to collect dust – the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Agency would be more than happy to take them off your hands. This week, the agency began collecting used cell phones to be utilized by the county’s Domestic Violence Shelter and Task Force for Elderly Abuse. They will be programmed for 911 calls so potential abuse victims can have easy access to law enforcement officials.

So if you have a cellular telephone you no longer plan to use, we urge you to donate it to the CAO so that it may be put to good use. Drop-off sites in the county are the Lawrence County Municipal Court, the Ironton, Kemp Street, South Point and Chesapeake Family Medical Centers and the Sybene and Ironton senior citizen centers. More locations may be added in the future.
