The case against Jeff Holton, the 22-year-old Hog Run Road man accused in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Misty Malone, will come before the Lawrence County Grand Jury next week.

The case was bound over to the grand jury during Thursday’s preliminary hearing in Ironton Municipal Court, according to Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr.’s office.

The grand jury is expected to meet Monday and Tuesday. If indicted there, Holton would appear in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Holton, of 2340 County Road 181, was arrested after the Aug. 24 shooting, Sheriff Tim Sexton said.

That evening, detectives recovered a .357-caliber handgun believed to be the one used during the shooting, which occurred outside the couple’s Hog Run Road home, Sexton said.

The investigation, by the sheriff’s department and the prosecutor’s office, is ongoing, officials said.
