HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Better, but…The Ironton Fighting Tigers put together a much better showing Saturday in the Huntington Invitational at Esquire Country Club, but coach Bill Washburn wasn’t totally pleased.
Ironton had a 412 team score place sixth in the 24-team field. Cabell Midland had a 382 to win the tournament followed by Logan (Oh.) with 395, Spring Valley and George Washington at 403, and Wyoming East was fifth at 409.
"Overall we played better than we did in the St. Charles Invitational, but we’re still making too many high scores on holes," Washburn said. "We had two players make a nine and 11 times we had a six. That’s got to come down for us to be successful."
Senior Andy Brown had another solid match as he finished third overall in the individual scoring. Brown had a 1-over 73 to place behind medalist Nathan Kinker of Cabell Midland who shot a 67 and runner-up Josh Cimbar of George Washington who had a 71.
Ironton’s Michael McGraw finished with an 83 while Joe Crabtree and Zach Christian each shot an 84. Jeff Parnell completed the scoring with an 88 as all five scores were counted in the tournament.
Ironton hosts a 7-team match Monday at the Ironton Country Club.
