PINE GROVE – Just when things are looking up, the Ironton Fighting Tigers golf team turn in a "bogey" performance.

Despite playing on their home course, the Ironton Fighting Tigers finished fifth in a seven-team match Monday at the Ironton Country Club.

Spring Valley won the match with a 159 score followed by Cabell Midland with a 160, Huntington 163, and Lucasville Valley 166.

Ironton had team scores of 155 and 148 in two of its past three matches, and was sixth in the 24-team invitational at Huntington on Saturday. But Monday the Fighting Tigers posted a 167 score.

Andy Brown shot a 4-over par 39 to lead Ironton and Joe Crabtree came in at 42. Michael McGraw, Jeff Parnell, and Zach Christian each carded a 43 while Justin Gillum had a 54.

The Rock Hill Redmen had a 189 score and placed seventh.

Matt Barnard shot a 41 and Ryan Norris a 43 to lead the Redmen. Tyler Jayne had a 52, Brandon Meginger a 53, Valerie McCoy shot a 55, and Nathan Wagner had a 61 for Rock Hill.

Spring Valley’s Steve Ross shot an even par 35 to take individual medalist honors.

Ironton plays at Russell, Ky., Tuesday.
