HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The season hasn’t begun and the Marshall Thundering Herd is already adding a game.
Marshall head basketball coach Greg White announced Tuesday that the Herd has added a home game Wednesday, Nov. 28, against Arkansas-Monticello.
Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
"With the NABC Classic in Lexington being an exempt tournament, we were allowed an additional game on our schedule and we wanted to take advantage of it," White said.
"This is a good game for both of us and I appreciate coach (Mike) Newell’s willingness to play."
Marshall ticket manager Michael Carpenter said the UA-Monticello game is included in the season ticket package and season ticket prices will remain the same.
UA-Monticello is an NCAA Division II school located in Monticello, AK. Newell, in his first season, inherits a team that was 20-8 overall last season.
The addition of Marshall give UA-Monticello a stretch of seven straight games against Division I schools. The Boll Weevils will also play Texas-El Paso, Providence, TCU, Oklahoma State, Louisiana Tech, and West Virginia.
Marshall’s annual "Thursday Night Thunder" will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Cam Henderson Center to tip-off the season.
The hour and one-half event will include team introductions of both the men and women teams, a dunk contest, a 3-point shootout, a 3-on-3 tournament, and an opportunity for fans to obtain autographs.
Ironton St. Joseph’s Joe Dressel is a member of the Herd team.
Something new has been added this year, a "Pre-Thursday Night Thunder" outdoor event that features live music from the band "Silver 30" and hot dogs. The Pre-TNT begins at 4 p.m. with registration for the 3-on-3 tournament on the tarmac between Third Ave. and the Lefty Rollins Track.
Admission for the TNT is $5 for adults and $2 for children 18-and-under. Marshall students are admitted free with valid university ID.
