Tomorrow, two communities in Lawrence County will participate in USA Weekend Magazine’s annual Make a Difference Day.
Last year, 2.2 million people in America cared enough about their communities to volunteer, accomplishing thousands of projects in hundreds of towns and helping an estimated 25 million people.
In Ironton, non-profit agencies of the Tri-State area will be at the Ironton City Center tomorrow to promote volunteering. There will also be a book drive and read-a-thon, games for children, face painting, refreshments, prizes and free Make a Difference Day memorabilia. At 12:45 p.m., Smokey the Bear will be making an appearance on the Third Street side of the City Center.
In Coal Grove, the Church of the Nazarene will provide free clothing, lunch and face painting for children. Volunteers will be doing work around the church and the Coal Grove Fire Department will be on hand to accept donations for the Fireman’s Disaster Fund. Also, old eyeglasses will be collected for Lens Crafters and the Coal Grove Lion’s Club.
The church was the recipient of the local award for the best Make a Difference Day project last year.
We urge everyone to support one – if not both – of these communities on Saturday. Together, we really can make a difference.
