Already, the flagpole overlooks U.S. 52 at a corner of Woodland Cemetery, standing at the end of a brick path honoring veterans of all ages and all wars.

By next Sunday, Nov. 11, two stone monuments will flank Old Glory, and honored guests will join members of the Veterans Memorial Committee for the dedication.

"A great many people working together have brought us to this phase," said Frank McCown, chair of the memorial committee. "We look forward to a wonderful dedication on Veterans Day."

There ceremony will officially start at 2 p.m. Sunday in Woodland Cemetery, although pre-dedication music will begin at 1:30 p.m.

The committee is asking area churches to ring their bells at 1:30 p.m. that Sunday for a few minutes. There will also be a flyover at that time by the Ohio Air National Guard.

The guest speaker for the service will be Major Gen. Paul Sullivan, who’s in charge of the Ohio Air Wing.

Banners, donated by Pepsi, are displayed at the intersections of Ohio 141, 93 and in Coal Grove.

Meanwhile, the committee is still taking orders for memorial bricks for the Patriot’s Path. It is currently finished with bricks that the committee has now. Bricks can be added throughout, either facing or trailing away from the memorial.

A trust has also been established for the proceeds to continue the care of the veteran’s memorial when the committee dissolves.
