If you have canned food or other items that you would like to donate, several area food pantries are accepting.

In Ironton, many churches operate food closets for their communities and/or membership.

For instance, the City Mission Church in Ironton accepts donations of food for its community food pantry, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or call ahead at 532-5041.

The City Mission will also set "food donation barrels" at area grocery stores like Pick ÕN Save, Tipton’s and Lambert’s at the first of next week.

At the First United Methodist Church pantry in Ironton, those wishing donate food can call the church at 532-1196, or 532-1199. The pantry is also open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon.

In South Point, the South Point United Methodist Church distributed 10 baskets of food for Thanksgiving on Tuesday. The pantry also accepts food drive donations from schools every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

To give at South Point United Methodist, call the church at 377-4690.

If you have food items to donate this holiday season, call one of the above pantries or a church in your neighborhood.
