Council passed a temporary budget in December. The temporary budget only reflects the amount of money needed to operate the city until a permanent budget is put in place.

Council chairman Jesse Roberts, who also chairs the finance committee, said tonight’s meeting will allow council members to see a budget proposal based upon recommendations of council. Roberts said the new budget could reflect three or four job cuts. He added that the budget carryover is a little better than what was expected and department managers within the city have done a good job in "tightening their belts" and cutting spending where it could be cut.

Roberts said the final budget will also reflect keeping a healthy carryover in order to ease the financial burden on the city. Roberts said the city entered 2002 with $680,000 in carryover with $207,000 encumbered.
