PORTSMOUTH – There was no rest period for the Green Bobcats.

Giving a solid effort the entire game, Green knocked off the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 57-42 Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

"We put 32 minutes together," Green coach Kevin Lewis said. "I was proud of the intensity and focused we played with tonight. We played seven people tonight and they all found a way to contribute."

Jacob Yarnell had 19 points and 13 rebounds as Green improved to 11-2 overall and 8-1 in the SOC.

Timmy Yarnell had 13 points and nine rebounds, Aaron Patton scored 13, and Ben Dyer and Timmy Yarnell handed out five assists each.

Jake Davis scored 13 points and Travis Kielmar 10 to pace Clay.

Davis got hot the first quarter as he scored 11 points to put Clay up 18-12. Timmy Yarnell had five for Green.

"Davis came out on fire, but from that time on we really just won the game with our defense. You hold a team like Clay to 24 points the last three quarters. That’s about what they average for a quarter," said Lewis.

"Our board work tonight was tremendous. We gave up a lot of size, but we were relentless and didn’t give up. That was a big part of the game."

Green outrebounded Clay 36-23.

The defense kicked in the second quarter as Green held Clay to just six points and went ahead 25-24 at the half.

In the third quarter, Patton hit a pair of 3-pointers and Jacob Yarnell scored five points to offset six by Kielmar as the Bobcats extended their lead to 42-36.

Clay was forced to foul late in the game and Green converted 7-of-14 over the final two minutes. Jacob Yarnell – who had eight points the fourth quarter – and Zach Pollard each had a key basket down the stretch.

"We did a good job taking care of the basketball, we hit enough free throws to win, and we got a couple of put-back baskets off missed free throws by Jacob and Zach," said Lewis.

Green plays at Eastern Friday.
