A win.

Using a tough defensive effort, the Lady Dragons beat the South Point Lady Pointers 59-39 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

"We just wanted to come out and play hard," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said. "And we played well defensively, The first quarter we just turned the ball over. After that we took better care of the ball and played good defense."

Jeana Diamond scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Brooke Fisher had 16 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals to lead the Lady Dragons.

Jennifer Jones added 12 points and four assists with Brooke Godby getting seven rebounds.

"(Brooke) Fisher has really picked up her scoring. Last year she had a lot of rebounds and assists, but this year she’s being more aggressive offensively," Speed said.

Fairland improved to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

Allison Perdue scored 13 points and Sarah Stevens had 10 for the Lady Pointers, 9-8 and 1-4.

Jones got eight points the first quarter to more than offset five by Stevens as Fairland led 15-11.

Fisher then scored nine points the second quarter and the defense held South Point to six points as the Lady Dragons went ahead 29-17 at the half.

The lead grew to 41-26 after three quarters, and then Diamond poured in 15 points the fourth quarter as Fairland iced the win.

Fairland hosts Green at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in a varsity-only game.
