After falling behind early, Chesapeake rolled past the South Point Lady Pointers 63-39 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

South Point raced to a 10-0 lead four minutes deep into the game. Chesapeake then came to life and went on a 12-0 run to close the quarter with a 12-10 lead.

Erin Sutphin hit a 3-pointer to make it 18-12 early in the second quarter. Sutphin hit two 3-pointers in the quarter as she and Emily Delimpo each scored 10 points and it was 37-18 at the half.

"It’s been a team effort all year and our defense carried us again," Chesapeake coach Chad Belville said."The first quarter we were tight and we couldn’t get a shot to fall."

"Our press didn’t get a lot of turnovers, but it took them out of their offense. Emily dominated on the boards. She came out and played real well."

The lead was 47-27 after three quarters and then injuries began to hit the Lady Panthers the fourth quarter. Sutphin and Jennifer Rice sustained ankle injuries, Lisa Perry suffered a slight concussion, and Sarah Harris also had an injury.

Delimpo, Megan Johnson, Brittany Boyle, Candace Dickerson, and Joy Mayenchein did most of the work the final quarter.

"We had a pretty young group out there and our freshmen really stepped it up and filled in until we were able to tape our players up and get them back in," Belville said.

Delimpo scored eight points and Sutphin four the fourth quarter as Chesapeake outscored the Lady Pointers 16-12.

Delimpo scored 20 points and had 19 rebounds to lead Chesapeake, 15-4 and 6-1 to lead the OVC. Sutphin scored 18 points and had four assists.

Nikki Layne scored 14 points to pace South Point (9-9, 1-5).

The Lady Panthers visits Fairland next Thursday to close out the regular season. A win would give Chesapeake at least a share of the OVC title.
