The Rock Hill Redwomen hauled down 42 rebounds as they beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 54-17 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Rachel Hartwig had 10 rebounds while Jordan Edwards, Julie Mootz, and Marie Bamer grabbed five each. "We played good defense and rebounded the ball. That was the big thing. Our big people gave us solid play," Redwomen coach Amy Hughes said. "We’re bonding together and communicating. We corrected a few problems on defense and now it’s contributing equally with our offense."

Miranda Edwards had 17 points, seven assists, and three rebounds to lead the Redwomen. Jordan Edwards added 15 points, and Hartwig and Courtney Doughman three steals each.

Rock Hill jumped out to a 15-4 first quarter lead and led 29-8 at the half. The lead was 42-15 after three quarters.

"It was nice for the seniors to win their last game at home, but we’ve got some tough road games ahead," said Hughes.

Rock Hill is 14-4 overall and 5-1 in the OVC, one-half game behind Chesapeake. The Redwomen play at Fairland Monday in a key OVC game and finish next Thursday at South Point.
