And the race is on.

Although this year’s general primary election is a few months away, those wishing to run for office have until Feb. 21 to file for the race.

As of Tuesday, four people have registered for the one open seat on the county’s Board of Commissioners.

Incumbent Paul Herrell, a Republican, has registered, as well as, Republican candidate James Coleman. On the Democrat ticket, John Conley and Doug Malone have tossed their hats into the ring.

Currently, the commission has a Republican favor. Both Herrell and commission president Jason Stephens are members of the GOP and commissioner George Patterson is the sole Democrat.

Incumbent Common Pleas Court Judge Frank McCown has also filed his intention to run, as has Probate and Juvenile Court Judge David Payne

Ray Dutey has also filed for his seat as the county’s auditor.
