HUNTINGTON – Taking care of business. The Rock Hill Redwomen had some business to take care of, and they did just that with the game on the line in a 52-48 win over the Miami Trace Lady Panthers Thursday in the Division II sectional semifinals.

After squandering as much as a 16-point lead, Rock Hill converted 12 of 19 from the foul line the fourth quarter to advance to Saturday’s sectional finals at 2:45 p.m. against Circleville Logan Elm.

Miranda Edwards was 7 of 9 from the line and Jordan Edwards sank three more when Miami Trace was forced to foul in an effort to get back in the game.

"We hit our free throws and took care of the basketball down the stretch," Rock Hill coach Amy Hughes said.

Another big key to the game was the defensive effort on Miami Trace’s leading scorer Angie Ater who was held to two points on a 1-for-11 shooting effort and just two points.

"Credit Miranda Edwards. She did a nice job on Ater," said Hughes.

Jordan Edwards, playing on a bad ankle, had 22 points and three steals while Miranda Edwards had 18 points and four assists. Marie Bamer and Courtney Doughman had six rebounds each.

Lisa Hartley had a game-high 23 points to pace Miami Trace. Laura Waddle, a 6-foot-2 center, had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Miami Trace had a 30-23 rebound advantage.

"It was hard to rebound against them. They’re so much taller that we were. But our girls played hard and kept battling them," said Hughes.

The game was tied four times early and Miami Trace held its only lead at 4-2. Jordan Edwards hit a 17-footer to put the Redwomen up 10-8 and they never trailed again.

Leading 13-12 after the first quarter, Miranda Edwards drained back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the second quarter and open up a 19-12 lead.

A layup by Bamer, a short jumper by Rachel Hartwig, and Bamer sank two foul shots for a 29-16 halftime lead.

The lead was 34-18 at the 3:59 mark of the third quarter before a three-point play by Kodi Haney and four points by Hartley got Miami Trace within 34-25.

The Lady Panthers kept chipping away at the Rock Hill lead until they trailed 43-39 with 1:53 lead after Waddle followed up a missed shot.

But with Miami Trace forced to foul, Miranda Edwards sank 7 of 8 from the line and Julie Mootz hit the second of two shots with five seconds remaining that iced the win.
