ALBANY – The Trimble Tomcats just had too many hots guns.
Trimble placed five players in double figures as they outscored the Symmes Valley Vikings 78-72 Tuesday in the Division IV sectional tournament.
A. J. Jenkins had 19 points and Jeff Trace 15 to lead the Tomcats (8-13). Bruce Fouts scored 12 and Alex Shust and Zach Walton added 11 each.
The group effort overshadowed a 31-point performance by Drew Hunt whose total included seven 3-point goals. Brandon Runyon added seven rebounds and six blocked shots.
Trimble now plays Green at 7 p.m. Friday for the sectional title.
The Tomcats took an 18-17 first quarter lead, then held the Vikings to nine points the second quarter to open up a 37-26 lead.
Both teams scored 14 points the third quarter to make it 51-40. Hunt tried to rallythe Vikings the fourth quarter, but Trimble managed to hold on in order to advance.
For the first time in several weeks, the Vikings were outrebounded, 47-28.
Symmes Vally finished 12-9.
