Crash sends two to hospital, another charged with DUI

A woman and her son were hospitalized Friday after their car was struck by an alleged drunk driver.
According to the Ironton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Lecia Bruce, 33, of Pedro was waiting to make a left turn off of State Route 141 onto Township Road 208. Bruce’s 1995 Ford Taurus was stopped in the east-bound lane as she was waiting for traffic to clear from the oncoming lane.
Bruce’s car was struck in the rear by a 1992 Ford Truck driven by Gene Walker, Jr. 41, of Willow Wood. According to the highway patrol, Walker’s blood-alcohol level was 0.102 – the legal limit is 0.10. The accident occurred at about 5 p.m.
Bruce was transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. and her son, Jared Bruce, 8, was transported by helicopter to the same medical facility. Ms. Bruce was treated and released while her son was kept overnight for observation and released Saturday. Neither sustained serious injuries.
Walker was cited for failure to stop and driving under the influence. Walker will be arraigned in Ironton Municipal Court on Monday.
The crash is still under investigation.
