"Up, up, and away," and "Did you see how far my balloon went?" were just some of the comments at the Open Door School as students kicked off MR/DD Awareness Month with a balloon launch Friday.
Students filled out a card with their name and the school’s address and tied the package on to the helium-filled balloons. Hopefully, Jeff Saunders, the school’s principal said, people will find the balloons and return letters letting the students know how far they traveled.
The student who receives a reply from the farthest distance will receive a prize. Last year, Saunders said, a student received a reply from Virginia where their balloon finally settled.
