Incumbent Democrat Ted Strickland of Lucasville will vie against GOP candidate Mike Halleck of Salem for the 6th District Congressional seat.
This district had recently been reshaped and now covers more than a 300-mile wide swath along the Ohio River. The district now consists of 12 counties, including parts of Scioto County and all of Lawrence, Gallia, Meigs, Washington, Nobel, Jefferson, Monroe and most of Athens, Mahoning, Columbiana, and Belmont counties.
Strickland ran against Lou A. D’Apolito and Charles Brown for the Democratic ticket. In Lawrence County, Strickland pulled ahead early and held his position throughout the night. Strickland walked away with 2,391 votes. D’Apolito had 44 votes and Brown earned 224.
On the Republican side, Halleck slipped by his competition, Lyle Williams of Warren, by a narrow margin. In the county, Halleck received 1,689 votes while Williams brought in 1,042. By Jeremy W. Schneider
