An Ironton child escaped serious injury Saturday after an accidental shooting.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies say the 11 year old girl was target practicing with her father at their home on Williams street when she accidentally shot herself in the foot with a .22 Ruger pistol.

The girl told authorities the gun went off when she reached down to adjust her pants leg.

The girl suffered a single wound to the instep of her foot. She was treated and released from King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

The father said they often target practice and this has never happened before.

In other news, a Kitts Hill woman was arrested for disorderly conduct after an incident over the weekend at a home on Union Church-Lodge Ridge road.

Lawrence County sheriffs deputies say 24 year old Susan Fife, of 998 Union Church-Lodge Ridge Rd., allegedly became intoxicated and violent while visiting the home of Roy and Chrystal Payton, near where she lives.

The Paytons called SouthEast Ohio Emergency Medical Services for assistance after Fife allegedly consumed whiskey and threatened to kill herself.

When paramedics arrived, Fife allegedly became violent, and deputies were then called for further assistance.

During the incident, Fife allegedly threatened to injure deputies Aaron Bollinger and Darren Hamlin, and told them she was Satan.

Deputies are also looking into several burglaries that occured over the weekend.

Vicki Lewis, 1539 Porter Gap Rd., told authorities she came home early Sunday morning to find her front door unlocked and a front window smashed. Her front porch light bulb had been unscrewed from its socket as well.

Deputies say the intruder ransacked Lewis’ bedroom, turning dresser drawers in the floor and rummaging through her bed.

The rest of the house was not affected and several valuable items in plain view were not taken.

David Crace, 96 Private Dr., Chesapeake arrived home Friday afternoon to find his front door standing open. He told authorities his stereo and DVD player were taken. Deputies say the intruder apparently gained entry by using a pry bar to open the door.

Rebecca Lewis, 274

Township Road 2785, Chesapeake, reported some one broke into her home Saturday. Deputies believe someone used a pry bar to open the front door. No items were reported missing at that time.

James Shuff, 337 Arabia-Greasy Ridge Rd. Willow Wood, reported someone broke into his parents home over the weekend. Authorities say a gas generator, a floor jack and two four-way lug wrenches were reported missing. Teresa Moore/The Ironton Tribune
