A block of Quincy Street was abound with fairgoers Saturday at the Ironton Catholic Schools Charity Fair.

Chris Monte, one of four co-coordinators for the fair, said the fair started Friday night and will last until the start of the Memorial Day Parade Monday. The fair is the largest annual fundraiser for St. Joseph and St. Lawrence Catholic Schools. Food vendors pay a fee to sell at the fair, while craft vendors give their proceeds to charity. Rides are also available.

Several parents, volunteers, and community members assisted with the event.

&uot;Without them (the volunteers) we couldn’t do it," Monte said. "It takes a lot of people to pull this off.&uot;

Rhonda Ferrell, a resident of Cattlettsburg, Ky., brought Tiny Tim, the world’s smallest horse. Ferrell is not the owner of the horse, but her husband went to Canada to get the horse from its owner there. Ferrell said her husband goes all over the world showing the horse.

Cathy McKnight, another co-coordinator, said some of the biggest food attractions of the fair are the egg rolls.

&uot;They’re wonderful. They’re not like any other egg rolls,&uot; she said.

A doctor and her sister had made the

authentic Filipino egg rolls for the fair, and they taught the fair organizers how to make them. McKnight said the egg rolls are one of the best sellers.

Julie Walters, whose daughter attends St. Lawrence, said she was helping because this was the largest fundraiser for the school and almost all of the parents help out.

&uot;It’s a wonderful Christian education. That’s why our kids go there, and we support it because of our faith,&uot; she said. Amelia A. Pridemore/The Ironton Tribune
