July 20, 1932-June 6, 2002 COLUMBUS -- Virginia Helen Bates, 69, of Columbus, formerly of Lawrence County, died Thursday at Pleasant Hill Manor in Piketon.
The Scottown native was born July 20, 1932, the daughter of the late William H. and Rachael Anderson Lewis.
She was a member of the Millwood Church of Christ at Washington Court House and also attended Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Scottown. She attended Windsor schools and was a former nurses aide at several nursing homes.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice Webb and June Arta Lewis; one brother, Paul Eugene Lewis; and one son, Gary Coldiron.
Survivors include five children, Mary Ellen Klein of New York, Larry Coldiron, Stella Jane Coldiron and Terry Coldiron, all of Ironton,and David Coldiron of Burlington; two sisters, Lennie and Willis Bundy of Ironton and Mary Jane Nicolia of Lancaster; and two brothers, Nelson Lewis of Huntington, W.Va., and Richard Lewis of Caldwell, W.Va.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, with minister Todd Parsley officiating. There will be no visitation. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
