Okie Haynes and two friends were on their way home from a fishing trip at 1:50 p.m. Friday when a car slid and hit the Leatherwood resident’s 1987 Chevy Blazer on a one-lane bridge on County Road 6 (Deering-Bald Knob Road) near the Rock Camp Post Office.

The driver of the other vehicle, Heather Berry, 27, of Kitts Hill, was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court for driving with a suspended license, Trooper Shane Salyers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. She was transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Berry was driving south in a late-1980s Nissan Sentra when the car slid on wet pavement and struck Haynes’ Blazer, Salyers said. Haynes was driving in the opposite direction on County Road 6.

Haynes had a 24-foot-long pontoon boat attached to the Blazer.

Berry’s nine-year-old daughter, Brittany Adkins was in the car, and was treated by SEOEMS. Adkins had minor injuries, but she nor anyone else involved in the accident appeared to have any serious injuries, said J.C. McKinney of SEOEMS.
