Next year, Ohio celebrates its 200th birthday. The Ohio Bicentennial Commission has produced a video tape of events planned in conjunction with the historic birthday. A copy of the video is available locally to schools, churches, civic groups and anyone else who wants to see it.
Lawrence County Bicentennial Committee member Dave Milem said the 23 minute tape is narrated by actor Hal Holbrook, and is an overview of activities throughout the state.
&uot;It’s a super good tape,&uot; Milem said. &uot;They’ve got shots from all over the state. It’s a quality video.&uot;
One of the activities planned in conjunction with the Bicentennial is a Bicentennial bell, cast in each county, to remain in the county as a memento of the state’s birthday. Milem said he also has a copy of that tape showing the bell making process.
Lawrence County’s bell will be cast in Proctorville at next year’s fair. It’s barn will be painted August 26.
