Green gets first victory

FRANKLIN FURNACE - There is no quit in the Green Bobcats.

After losing their first six games, Green fell behind twice and fought back each time as the Bobcats beat the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 16-13 Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Green got its first win of the season with a strong running game, led by Jeremy Terry who ran 23 times for 117 yards. Josh Moore had 97 yards on 14 tries and Marc Castro ran 14 times for 61 yards and both Green touchdowns.

After a scoreless first quarter, Notre Dame took the lead on a 4-yard pass from Matt Mader to Ben Haaf. Michael Russell kicked the conversion, and it was 7-0.

The Bobcats, who had 270 yards rushing, came back on a 1-yard run by Castro for a touchdown. John Dawson passed to Luke Grabeman for the conversion and an 8-7 lead at the half.

The Titans regained the lead in the third quarter when Adam Morris recovered a fumble and ran it back 17 yards for a score. The conversion run failed, and it was 13-8.

Green took the lead for good with a long drive culminated by Castro's 28-yard run. Grabeman caught his second conversion pass from Dawson, and the Bobcats led 16-13.

Mader completed 12 of 27 for 100 yards and a touchdown for the Titans (0-7, 0-3).

Grabeman led the Green defense with nine tackles, including three quarterback sacks. Castro also had nine stops while Ryan Klaiber had seven tackles.

Green (1-6, 1-2) travels to East next Friday. Notre Dame plays at Symmes Valley.
