Decatur Township is only months away from getting a new fire station.

The Lawrence County Commission Thursday agreed to advertise for new bids for the facility. It will be paid for with Community Development Block Grant funds.

The old fire station is located on the same property as the old Rock Hill Elementary No. 1. Now that the Rock Hill School District has consolidated it's elementary school and the school building is no longer used, the fire station is having to find new quarters elsewhere.

The new fire station will be built next door to the village hall on State Route 93.

Commission President Jason Stephens said the new building will be a basic metal facility to which improvements can be made in the future.

"We've needed this for a long time," Decatur Fire Chief James Hutchinson said. "And this won't cost the citizens of Decatur a cent. This is being paid for with grant monies. That's the nicest thing."
