Do you have what it takes? Organizers are hoping those who attend a motivational workshop Thursday will be inspired to answer affirmatively.

Operation Be Proud and the Ohio Appalachian Education Opportunity Center will sponsor a visit by registered motivational speaker N. Marcia Harris.

Harris, of Portsmouth, will challenge participants to think positively and to set and achieve goals, according to OAEO Outreach Coordinator Teresa McKenzie.

"I want them to come out empowered," McKenzie said. "I want them to know that there's nothing they cannot accomplish if they try.

"I hope they leave with a better sense of what they can achieve, both simple goals and long-term goals, such as lifting themselves up out of poverty, if they're in poverty. I want them to believe in themselves."

McKenzie said she wants to particularly stress that education -- either a college degree or vocational/ technical training -- can be a key to success.

Harris is known for her work with young people

at the 14th Street Community Center in Portsmouth.

The workshop will be conducted at the Operation Be Proud Enrichment Center, 628 S. Ninth Street, Ironton. It is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
