PEDRO -- Dave Schug got a break Tuesday at McDonie's.
Schug, the leading scorer for Rock Hill, took a back seat as Rickie McDonie scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Redmen past the South Gallia Rebels 46-28.
McDonie enjoyed a double-double as he had 10 rebounds to go along with his point total. Schug had 11 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists to help Rock Hill avenge an earlier loss at South Gallia.
"Rickie has been playing much better," Redmen coach Marty Mills said. "Rickie is starting to understand how to play the game, when to get his shot off, and he's not getting down on himself. That's good to see."
McDonie scored 8 of Rock Hill's 9 points the first quarter and it was 9-9.
Schug got 7 points the second quarter and the defense held South Gallia to a mere 2 points and it was 25-11 at the half.
"I felt the key for us tonight was our intensity. We really picked it up. South Gallia has some really good shooters and to hold them to 28 points is something. Most of their shots were contested," Mills said. "We didn't give up any second shots. That's where they hurt us at their place."
McDonie knocked down 8 more in the third quarter as Rock Hill stretched its lead to 38-20.
The Redmen now play at Chesapeake Friday in a crucial Ohio Valley Conference game. Chesapeake won the first meeting 48-46.
Brandon Caldwell had 12 points and Josh Waugh 10 to lead South Gallia.
In the reserve game, South Gallia won 40-36 as David Bayless scored 17 points and Dustin O'Brien 14. Nick Snavely had 10 points and Brian Skaggs 8 for the Redmen.
