Area trio named to Div. III All-Ohio

It's kind of like the shamrock. Three players and one All-Ohio team.

Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers Candace Ferguson, Fairland Lady Dragons Jennifer Jones, and Chesapeake Lady Panthers Lisa Perry were named Tuesday to the Associated Press Division III All-Ohio team.

Ferguson and Jones were second team selections while Perry was honorable mention.

Ferguson, a 6-foot senior center, averaged 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as Ironton posted a 17-4 record and advanced to the district finals. She was a first team all-district selection.

Jones, a 5-6 senior guard, has 18 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 65 percent from the foul line. She was a first team all-district pick.

The 5-6 Perry averaged 13.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 5.0 steals an outing. The junior point guard, who was second team all-district, has 427 career assists which puts her on a pace to finish among the top 10 in girls' state history.

South Euclid Regina's Siedah Williams was named the Player of the Year. Amy Taylor of Bucyrus Wynford and Brent Carter of Coshocton shared the state's top coaching award.

In Division IV, South Webster's Brooke Hughes was a first team choice. She is the sister of Ironton coach Amy Hughes.

Courtney Doughman of South Webster was honorable mention All-Ohio.
