LLOYD, Ky. -- It was almost as if the Greenup County Musketeers had decided to hold "Josh Sands Day."

Unfortunately for Greenup, Sands plays for the Ironton Fighting Tigers.

Sands hurled a two-hitter and backed his own pitching with two hits and two runs batted in as Ironton downed the Musketeers 7-1 Monday.

Sands struck out nine and walked just one as he improved his record to 2-0.

"The story today was Josh Sands," Ironton coach Mark Lewis said. "Josh threw the ball real well. That was a nice effort."

Derek Moore was 2-for-3 and Matt White homered as Ironton improved to 5-3 on the season.

"We didn't have a lot of hits, but Greenup's pitchers did a nice job," Lewis said.

Greenup took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Hayden singled, stole second, went to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Ironton tied the game in the second.

Sands doubled, stole third and scored when the throw went into left field.

The Fighting Tigers scored four times in the third inning to grab the lead for good at 5-1.

Chris Collins walked, went to second on a wild pick off throw, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Williams.

Moore doubled, went to third on an error, and, after Tyler Whaley walked, scored on a wild pitch. White walked and stole second, and Sands helped his own cause with a two-run single.

Moore singled in the fifth and White unloaded a two-run homer to cap the scoring.
