PEDRO - The reunion will be missing its coach, but organizers are hoping to have his family members.

Charlie Kautz was the head coach of the Rock Hill Redmen in 1953 when the team won the Lawrence County League championship by posting a 9-0 record, the only unbeaten team in the school's 53-year history.

Kautz went on to coach at Marshall University and later served as the athletic director. He was killed in 1970 when the plane carrying the football team, some athletic staff members, media and boosters crashed on its approach to Tri-State Airport.

Kautz has two daughters and the reunion committee members are hoping they will be able to attend the weekend ceremonies.

A reunion party will be held from 7-11 p.m. Friday at the South Point Grandview Inn. The annual potluck dinner from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Rock Hill Middle School will honor the 1953 team.
