Ironton School board search progressing

By the end of this week, a new face will likely be seen at Ironton City School Board meetings.

The board will meet twice this week. In a special meeting Wednesday, the board will interview applicants for the vacancy created by the resignation of board member Kathy McGinnis. On Thursday, board members will review the applications of prospective board members and likely make a selection.

Board president Teresa Parker said the board had several ways it could have filled the vacancy, but the application process was recommended by the Ohio State School Boards Association.

"This was so everyone who is interested has had a chance to say that they're interested," Parker said. "No one is left out."

Parker said interested citizens may submit an application for consideration as late as Wednesday. She did not have figures on how many applications had been submitted, since people were allowed to hand in applications to the administrative office or any board member.

McGinnis resigned in June, citing health problems.
