HAMILTON -- It was like the Ironton 10-year-old All-Stars were sleepwalking. The game was certainly a nightmare.
Canfield had just three hits, but they used seven Ironton errors and eight walks to post a 13-2 win in four innings Sunday at the state tournament.
"We just didn't play well. It was just night and day from the way we played (Saturday). We gave them 13 runs early and never recovered. I don't know how to explain it," Ironton coach Jimmy Mahlmeister.
Ironton will play at 5 p.m. Monday against the winner of Pymingtuning Valley and Bucyrus.
Canfield used four errors to score three runs in the top of the first inning, but Ironton came back with two runs
Tyler Salyers was hit by a pitch, Anthony Harper hit into a fielder's choice, Tanner Riley walked, Josh Murphy was safe on an error to load the bases, and Aaron Allen and Codey Jones each walked to force in runs.
Canfield blew the game open in the third inning with six runs.
Four walks, an error and a bases-loaded triple by Anthony Gelonese highlighted the uprising that made it 9-2.
The District 2 champions then scored four times in the fourth inning to create the mercy rule victory.
Ironton had just two hits as Brian Warner was 1-for-2 and Anthony Harper went 1-3.
