United Way's Lawrence County campaign will kick off and horses will strut their stuff this weekend.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., United Way of the River Cities will kick off its fund raising campaign for the county with a host of family activities at the Liebert Corporation parking lot. Electronic basketball, kids' tattoos and face painting will be available as well as representatives from various social and public service agencies.
Lawrence County's goal will once again be $150,000. Last year, county residents raised 96 percent of it. The campaign usually ends Dec. 31, but it is often extended into the new year. Forty-four percent of Lawrence Countians are helped by United Way agencies.
The Ohio University Southern Horse Park is sponsoring a horse show that will last through the entire weekend. The American Quarterhorse-santioned event will begin at 6 p.m. Friday with several contests. The event will continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Hundreds of riders from across the country are expected to arrive.
