Lady Tigers volleyball team wins opener

For the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers, it was a volley good first show.

The Lady Tigers opened the volleyball season with a win over the Fairland Lady Dragons Monday.

Ironton won in three sets 15-5, 7-15, 15-12, behind a strong all-around performance by senior Jamie Parker.

Parker had nine points, plus 54 setting assists, 20 assists and four kills.

Sarah Cartmell scored 7 points in the win, Sara Hacker and Tracy Mays 6 points each, Ali Markins 5 and Andrea Rudmann 4.

Ironton had 20 blocks with Cartmell getting six. Rudmann had five blocks, Hacker four, Markins three and Mandy Boykin two.

Rudmann also had 12 hits and five kills, Markins 10 hits and six kills, Cartmell 10 hits and five kills, Boykin five and three and Hacker two and one.

In the reserve match, Fairland came away with a straight sets win, 15-4, 15-0.

Allison Hager had 13 points, Taylor Billar 9 points and Molly Bumgardner added 8 points.

Jennifer Thornton scored all four points for Ironton.

The Lady Tigers play at South Point at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
