Extradition hearing for robbery suspect
An extradition hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court for a Coal Grove man arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree armed robbery and fleeing and eluding an officer in connection with the holdup of an Ashland, Ky., gas station.
Michael Bazell 26, was arraigned Tuesday in municipal court on the fleeing and eluding charge. He will answer to the armed robbery charge in Boyd County, Ky.
Bazell is accused of going with Joshua Joyce, 22, of Flatwoods, Ky., to rob the Marathon gas station at 18th and Winchester Ave. Ashland Police allege that Bazell drove the getaway car while Joyce used a gun and demanded money.
They were pursued from Kentucky into Ohio by Ashland police. Once in Ohio, Coal Grove police and Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies located the two men at a residence on Rowe Street and took them into custody.
Bazell is in the Lawrence County Jail. Joyce was taken to the Boyd County Jail in Catlettsburg, Ky. Joyce was arraigned in Boyd County Tuesday. He remains in jail under a $300,000 cash bond.
