Ironton Police are investigating a shooting and a stabbing that happened within a two-hour time frame early Thursday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., Ironton police officers and Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 2200 block of North Seventh Street, the Sta-Tan trailer park, after a resident there said a masked gunman came to his residence and demanded money.

"The resident said he was awakened by someone knocking on his door. When he answered, it there was a man dressed all in black with a white ski mask," Ironton police detective, Capt. Chris Bowman said. "The suspect produced a handgun and demanded money. A struggle ensued and shots were fired. One hit the victim in the left hand."

Bowman said the suspect then fled on foot from the scene. Several items at the scene were confiscated as evidence. At the time, the victim said he would seek medical attention for his wound later.

Authorities are asking residents in that area to contact the police department if they have any information that leads to the apprehension of the suspect, who is described only as being of medium height, approximately 150 pounds. An officer can be reached at 532-2338.

At 2:45 a.m., police were advised of a stabbing that had taken place in the alley in the 900 block of South Third Street. Officers who responded to the scene said apparently, two men had been asked to leave Casey's Pub earlier in the evening. Later, members of the Aaron Miller Band, who were playing in the bar, said they encountered those two men in an alley several blocks away and there was an altercation.

One member of the band was stabbed in the chest and stomach. He was taken to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital where he is listed in good condition. One of the two men who had been asked to leave the bar was later taken to King's Daughters Medical Center with head injuries.

The matter remains under investigation.
