DECATUR TOWNSHIP - A Georgia truck driver narrowly escaped injury Wednesday morning when his semi tractor-trailer flipped onto its driver's side.

At about 8:30 a.m., Rickey Smith, 45, of Stockbridge, Ga., was traveling southbound along State Route 93 in northern Decatur Township, near the Washington Township line. Smith said he had picked up 16 skids of red clay and while driving down 93, his load begin to shift. He tried to counteract the shift, but his truck flipped.

The late-model Mack truck came to rest on the left side of the road on its driver's side and a portion of a guard rail was damaged. Smith said he managed to get out of the truck by himself. He only suffered minor cuts and bruises, and was treated at the scene by Southeast Ohio Emergency Medical Services.

When he managed to get out of the truck, the only thing he had on his mind was contacting his family, but he had no cellular phone service, Smith said.

Smith was cited for failure to control by Trooper Rob McClelland of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
